Black Bear Sightings On The Rise In Farwell

Farwell- With the heat picking up in Western Clinton County, nuisance animal encounters are on the rise, especially in Farwell. Black bear sightings are nothing new for the residence of Farwell. There’s a long history of problem bears within the village.

The past week has seen one particular bear return following a spring ravaging of bird feeders and trash. I was personally a victim of his hunger when he helped himself to our trash. The following night he found himself another victim.

This is the known price one pays to live in this wilderness setting and it is one of those expected things that is completely unavoidable.

Bird feeders, trash and anything that lures in bear or other wildlife will now remain in a secure place here on Central Ave. Motorists on 120 should use extra caution when passing through the Farwell area as well.

Central Ave resident Travis Fantaskey claims to have had the most polite bear he’s ever heard of a few years ago.

“He just calmly sat down and neatly rummaged through the garbage. Never made a mess.” Claimed Fantaskey

Meanwhile my visitor stretched out a 100-yard trail of destruction from my house to the banks of the West Branch!
