How Renovo Won The Battle Of Gettysburg

Hall’s Run- Well, not technically Renovo but a soon to be citizen did.

Captain James S. Hall of the 53rd Regiment Co. D PA Volunteer Infantry played a critical role during the defense of Little Round Top during the Battle of Gettysburg on July 2, 1863.

Hall actually pulled off multiple heroic feats on that day. The first was alerting General Gouverneur Warren of the rebel attempt to move on the Union right flank at Little Round Top.

He would then positioned his signal flags to convince the confederate forces of a false position that the Union troops had position on a key piece of ground, when it did in fact not have the area secure.

Hall, who surprisingly is no relation to Jesse Hall took up residence in Renovo following the war and became one of the first railroad clerks in the newly established borough. He died in 1896 at the age of 67 and is buried in the Hall’s Run Cemetery.

Hall’s actions on July 2, 1863 may have won the most critical battle of the Civil War and that makes him a true Railroad City Legend.
