Harrisburg- Pennsylvania’s hunting season officially kicks off Tuesday, Sept. 1, with the opening of the early Canada goose and dove seasons.

Hunters heading into the field are reminded that additional licensing requirements apply for migratory birds. In addition to a general hunting license, goose and dove hunters must possess a Pennsylvania Migratory Game Bird License.

Canada goose hunters age 16 and older must also have a Federal Duck Stamp. According to the Pennsylvania Game Commission, migratory bird hunters should make sure all required licenses and stamps are in place before the season begins.

Hunters should also be aware that Sunday hunting remains closed for migratory game birds, including geese and doves, during the 2026-27 seasons.

The Pennsylvania Game Commission lists the 2026 dove season as Sept. 1 through Nov. 27, with a second season running Dec. 18 through Jan. 2. The early Canada goose season also opens Sept. 1. Hunters should check the full Pennsylvania Game Commission regulations for zone details, bag limits and any special rules before heading out.
