Farwell- Bucktail looked good in their 32-22 season opening loss. The Bucks found a way to make defensive adjustments to slow down Cameron County’s Kamden Fragale. Fragale tallied 333 yards on the ground, but the majority of those yards came in the first half. Now Region 4 play opens with Otto-Eldred coming to Farwell on Friday night in their home opener.

Last Week

Bucktail fell to Region 3’s Cameron County 32-22, while the Terrors struggled in their Region 4 opener to Smethport 72-29.

Key Players

Ryan Schenfield was everything for Otto-Eldred in their week one loss at Smethport. Schenfield led the Terrors in rushing and threw for over 100 yards. He will be Bucktail’s defensive focus Friday night.

Schenfield replaces graduated Otto-Eldred quarterback Shane Magee, who always had big nights against the Bucks.

Corbin Pentz racked up 112 yards passing at Cameron County. Look for the Bucktail sophomore signal caller to continue his hot start against an Otto defense that allowed 72 points in their opener.

Junior Teagan Stone reached the end zone twice against the Red Raiders. Stone caught three passes for 82 yards in that opener.

Bucktail racked up 265 yards on the ground in week one, led by Stephen Heiser’s 135 yards on 18 carries. Patrick Tarantella scored a fourth quarter rushing touchdown, while gaining 34 yards on 13 totes.

Tarantella also led the Bucks in tackles. JJ Ditty now has four career blocked PAT’s after knocking down a Cameron County attempt Friday night.

Keys To The Game

This game will come down to who’s defense holds strongest. Otto-Eldred gave up 72 points, but they also scored 29 points. That’s more than Bucktail’s 22 points they scored in their opener.

Look for a lot of big plays by both teams on Friday, which will bring plenty of excitement on Friday night and expect a big Bucktail crowd for the home opener.

If you’re one to believe in curses, then I have one for you. Bees O’Brien and Denny Getz are 0-19 in Bucktail games that they’ve called together. Is it a curse? Friday’s game the dynamic duo will be back at it, but for the first time ever it will be under the Railroad City Sports banner.

The Bucks have never defeated the Terrors since joining the D9 League. Otto-Eldred is their longest standing opponent among Region 4 programs, as they’ve been on Bucktail’s schedule since before the Bucks joined the league.
