AUSTIN — The Austin Lady Panthers shook off a slow start Tuesday night and stormed back to defeat Smethport in four sets, 19-25, 25-15, 25-15 and 25-13.
Smethport grabbed the opening set as Austin worked through a few early adjustments, with several players settling into new positions. Once the Lady Panthers found their rhythm midway through the second set, the match turned sharply in their favor.
Austin controlled the final three sets, using strong serving, steady setting and balanced attacks at the net to pull away.
Anna Brewer helped guide the offense with 26 assists and added two kills. Marissa Stuckey had a big night with 14 kills, seven digs and five aces. Cailyn Ogden added eight kills and three blocks, while Mary Clinger delivered six kills, eight digs and a huge serving performance with 12 aces.
The win gives Austin momentum heading into a busy stretch. The Lady Panthers are scheduled to play Wednesday, Thursday and Friday as they continue a packed week of volleyball.
