Mill Hall- Bucktail’s junior high softball team’s surge continued on Monday afternoon at Central Mountain. The Lady Bucks held off a late rally as time expired to remain perfect on the season by edging out the Lady Wildcats, 12-10.
It wasn’t easy for Bucktail by any means.
The Lady Bucks jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Central Mountain responded with a lone run of their own in their half of the inning. Bucktail gained some space in their next at bat by plating four runs and hold a 6-1 lead, but back came the home team.
The Lady Wildcats countered with a three-run bottom of the second inning to put the score at 6-4 in favor of the Farwell squad.
Bucktail’s high octane offense erupted for six more runs in the top of the third inning to give them the comfortable 12-4 lead.
No lead is ever safe in the fast paced world of junior high softball.
With the clock ticking closer to the dreaded 6pm deadline, Central Mountain gave one last effort. The Lady Wildcats comeback bid was a good one. CM managed a six-run final inning, but fell two runs short in the 12-10 final.
Kiplee Friese and Adi Getz each went three for three on the day and both added three runs batted in. Friese picked up the win in the circle for Bucktail. Andrea Burrows collected a hit and 2 runs driven in. Blake Houser, Audrina Tarantella and Madison Dent also picked up base knocks for the Lady Bucks.
Bucktail, now 4-0 is set to host Sullivan County tomorrow at 4:30. The game will be livestreamed on Railroad City Sports.
